Achieved Statuses: Ongoing Broad-based Feeding, Nutrition Education, Health and Nutrition Awareness Campaigns, Ongoing Nutrition Surveillance and Anthropometric Surveys Assessments, Biodiverse Productive Garden, Categorised additional nutrition ad-hoc services for expectant and nursing mothers, adolescents and older people according to nutritional requirements, linked the sick beneficiaries with health systems; children who’s malnutrition status had deteriorated as a result of environmental and situational determinants were redirected to the relevant partners for additional assistance.

Food Security Status in the area
Freedom Farm is an informal settlement on the northern boundary of the airport near the intersection of Robert Sobukwe Road and Stellenbosch Arterial. Freedom Farm is home to close to 2 000 people. Residents have been living in the area for as long as 30 years (average 12 years). There is no formal access to electricity in this settlement and limited communal water points and sanitation. The unemployment rate in the area is close to 65% and more than 50% of children (0-18 years) are not in school. The leadership of this community is newly formed and has been stable since its formation.
Burdened by chronic and hidden hunger
Food, nutrition and health of those who live in the Freedom Park informal settlements are key aspects that are set to change the future of the inhabitants. Struggling to access sufficient quantities of healthy food diets are high in processed food, refined starch, fat and high in sugar and or fat. This leads to us seeing the double burden of malnutrition and obesity (hidden hunger) as a daily reality. Their lack of access to a sustainable source of income/access to productive resources and nutritional food has a negative consequence on their overall health.
